A thread on the only way Spurs could get to the top without the fortunes of a Man City/Chelsea or falling on someone like Pochettino at the perfect time (basically never happening again)
Spurs went for the project manager. And that project manager achieved things no one thought was possible. And there’s next to no chance another ‘project manager’ gets anywhere near the same level of success as Poch, so why go back to that route?
They then complete u-turn to win immediately and got the serial winner in. That didn’t work. Do you go for the same approach hoping another serial winner is available and it works that time? It could, but there’s no long term planning there, when the last one didn’t work
So the only way to do it, is to ingrain the club, from top to bottom with a culture. A culture that is adhered to throughout from academy to professional. Like the RB clubs, Barca, Ajax. But that takes years to build. And you have to accept potential failures
And you back that way of working to be able to produce results. Because everyone is on the same page. Everything becomes structured and fine tuned and you truly build towards a machine that can repeat success after success.
Because unless you are a club that has the billions to spend, or you fall on a manager like Poch at the right time, you must have consistency to achieve. Consistency of approach, and the best way to do that is to ingrain that approach throughout the entire club
Spurs do have the funds to make a setup like the RB setup one that can win titles. Because there is the size and funding. Imagine what a Leipzig could achieve if they had the funding and stature of a club like Spurs? The players/managers they could attract that fit what they want
Will all this happen? Not a chance. But for me, it’s the only logical approach to trying to achieve long term stability and success when you’re not a club that spends hundreds of millions on players. Unless lucking out on the right manager at the right time is a logical approach
