This statement from @basecamp's leadership is one we heard from @coinbase and others will follow
The push to turn back; to recapture what was, although comforting, isn't possible and soon these leaders will experience the impact of such decisions... https://world.hey.com/jason/changes-at-basecamp-7f32afc5

because, let's be honest, the experience they're attempting to recapture were exclusionary at best, and downright toxic and harm at worse

that "No more societal and political discussions at Basecamp.", is beyond problematic, particularly if you're holding themselves to a standard of welcoming and psychological safety to the most vulnerable related to diversity [recruitment] and inclusion [retention]
This highlights that the expectation continues to be for folx whose lived experiences are political due to the systems, institutions, and policies that are designed to privilege two mediocre, unremarkable white dude in tech founders
[BTW-this isn't meant to be an insult...it's just reality], to suck it up and leave trauma that at the door...well @jasonfried & @dhh, we can't AND we won't
This is hard work...not your codebase

is a challenge of it's own, BUT the days of "shut up and dribble" that we're hearing from these organizational leaders, again, particularly in tech, where the status quo supports the chaos and destruction of white supremacy, are quickly coming to an end
This is a very clear example why we, as an industry, have to start talking about Profit Without Oppression
We CANNOT and SHOULD NOT expect folx, particularly the most vulnerable, to work in environments where the powerful and privileged...

can silence them in order to return to some imagined utopia, where the mediocre and unremarkable feel comfortable again
This is definitely a "we get there together or not at all" moment in tech and its current leadership...

continues to DEMONSTRATE their inability and unwillingness to lock arms with us in order to improve the experiences of ALL stakeholders: those who work for, partner with, buy from, and invest in their organizations
I wonder what's changed in @dhh's life since last January to make such a reversal...because in the lives of Black folx, it's been an all out assault on Black lives
