It's official: Texas will gain two additional congressional seats following the 2020 census. This brings its total count to 38 seats — the 2nd highest count behind California — and 40 Electoral College votes. #txlege
Texas has gained at least one additional congressional seat after every census since 1950, according to the Census Bureau. It’s gained two or more seats after every census since 1980.

Our story is here: https://www.texastribune.org/2021/04/26/texas-congress-seats-gain/
We've got a total population number: The 2020 census puts the state’s population at 29,145,505 — up from 25.1 million in 2010 — after gaining the most residents of any state in the last decade: https://www.texastribune.org/2021/04/26/texas-congress-seats-gain/

And some context on that growth: https://twitter.com/alexazura/status/1386763480620060681
For those wondering about 3rd congressional seat Texas was expected to gain: Census officials indicated the state's 2020 pop count was slightly lower — about 1% difference — than estimates showed.

Meanwhile, NY wouldn't have lost a seat if 89 more people had been counted (!!)
TX came close to that 3rd seat — third runner-up among states that almost gained another congressional seat.

Reminder: In lead up to census, #txlege Republicans shot down significant funding toward the count. TX then used federal coronavirus relief $ for last-minute ad campaign.
