The RAW is that areas of darkness within the range of darkvision are lightly obscured and you can’t distinguish colors. Lightly obscured, as per RAW means that any perception checks that rely on sight are done at disadvantage and take a -5 penalty to passive perception (2/3)
So, while it might be a lot stealthier to sneak around in the dark with vision, it also means that characters are significantly more likely to miss something more important, like a trap or an enemy with blindsight hiding, if the full RAW is being used (3/3)
