Anyway I've never said this before bc I firmly believe in fandom liberty and u're allowed to interpret characters however u want, OOC or not, but the only way to actually understand Diluc is to think like him.
Pre-Ursa, Diluc was probably a bit white-and-black and had too much
+
faith in the Good of everything. He held high standard (perfection) for himself and this plus his almost rigid personality shows in how he treats relationships too.
(Excuse my horrendous English)
The reason why he blew up that gloomy night (CN og text) was NOT bc Kaeya betrayed
+
him, or bc he was a jackass and made the rash conclusion that "Oh my sworn bro is from Khaenri'ah he definitely wants smth bad for Mondstadt/was involved in my father's death", it was bc he couldn't believe and couldn't handle that the one person he trusted the most, his only
+
remaining family, his best friend who swore an oath with him and who he has so much tacit understanding with it's almost as if they were twins, didn't trust him the way Diluc trusted in him.
Kaeya spent more than a decade in their household, under their roof, and he never said
+
a word abt his true background to Diluc, or to Crepus. The two kind men who welcomed him into their home, their lives, with open arms, and loved and supported him.
His trust, his faith in his family members was betrayed a SECOND TIME in the same evening. His father for secretly
+
harbouring a Delusion, and Kaeya for confessing about his identity.
This was after his life-long goal and other faith, the Knights, betrayed his trust. In the same evening, if the inconsistent writing can be trusted.
OBVIOUSLY, he lashed out. Bc Kaeya. He trusted him the most.
+
After his father, after the Knights, Kaeya was all he had.
(He also had to kill his own father and was forced to watch his father's 'honor' being taken. Shit evening hm?)
Look what that trust resulted in.
He was hurt, by his own powerlessness, by having his faith crushed. But
+
he couldn't do anything atm, which is why he went on a sojourn with rage as his only fuel. Definitely not just bc he had to know where his father got that evil power.
(Also, inconsistent writing strikes again here. But we don't talk about that.)
He was almost self-destructive,
+
carried on a deadly mission alone for many years, covered in wounds but still pushing forward, until that almost-death encounter.
Then when he returned, he kept everyone at arm's length—if you look close enough like this obsessed simp did, his own employees didn't even know him
+
that well, either that or it was inconsistent writing striking again—so really, he's a deeply traumatized man trying to deal while going to therapy was probably the smarter option.
Also, abt his cold attitude towards Kaeya.
1, webtoon suggested that's his true self. That's him
+
without the polite "Childe of Mondstadt" (CN og) persona on.
2, he's prideful, stubborn, and have trust issues. If Kaeya wasn't there at his worst, self-preservation would demand he stay away from this man now. (Which he didn't :))
3, I've never seen anyone mention this, but we
+
actually don't know how wielding a Delusion for years affected his mentality. This might be a possible factor here.
There are also other reasons I speculated but we won't mention those now as they're not as well-supported by canon facts.
But anyway, moral of the story, Diluc is
+
not a very straight-foward character in terms of personality. It's easier to figure out his principles than his thought process.
If you like the HC that he's a jackass and an oblivious idiot bc you like Kaeya angst or bc that's your jam, well.
But I've kind of had enough of
+
this weird reality where fanon concepts get treated as canon-implied and have to say *something* about it.
This entire thread is unplanned, spontaneous, and not proof-read. If you spot anything weird feel free to leave a comment, if you wanna talk about Diluc and Kaeya or
+
have any question about the canonic evidence I skimmed over please do the same

But pls don't be a jerk about people's interpretations😅 If you don't like this you do you and I do me. Block or mute me if you want to.
I love Diluc. He's a good man. A smart but stupid good man.
+
(I may like bullying him a bit too much, but turns out misunderstanding his character and misinterpreting his personality is
not something I can just sit by and watch.)
