throwing my hat in bc it’s trending

honestly i really do think that part of the reason people have such a poor view of new horizons is because everyone got burnt out way too fast; that isn’t to say it didn’t fall short of expectations, but (cont.)
i think the pandemic was the worst thing that could’ve happened for this game’s release. instead of playing an hour or so a day or even just a couple times a week, everyone sunk tons of hours into it right away and not only exhausted what content there was, (cont.)
but didn’t have enough time to build up friendships with their villagers to unlock better dialogue, and only experienced a month or two’s worth of weather, fish, bugs, etc. i also think that the update system was genuinely meant to keep players engaged and (cont.)
coming back to the game while also forcing people to pace themselves and teach them that the game rewards players more for putting a little time in every day over sinking several hours into it all at once. whether you like that model is another discussion, but (cont.)
regardless, it flew in the face of how everyone played this game at the beginning of lockdown, using it as both a distraction and a replacement for IRL social interaction. any AC game will get boring if you try to play for hours every single day (cont.)
- you need to come back tomorrow. that’s kind of the point.. i’m not trying to say that the update system hasn’t been frustrating, that the relative lack of content doesn’t actually exist, or that it isn’t a problem. but i don’t think people would be quite as harsh (cont.)
if everyone had paced themselves more with the game. i even think that tool durability would be less of an issue if people only fished/caught bugs a few times a week, or hit rocks/chopped trees only when they needed materiel. it’s another way the game is telling you to (cont.)
slow down, and only becomes a problem when you’re trying to chop every single tree, catching multiple inventories’ worth of bugs/fish, etc.. the game is begging you to stop lol (also hi i’m narcoleptic and fell asleep writing this thread) (cont.)
