I listened in today on a LTN webinar. The panel was made up of @clairekholland @MaryCreagh_ Clyde Loakes of WF council and Dr Anthony Laverty of Imperial college. There was a question about how LTNs impact people with disabilities. @clairekholland answered this...
I felt your answer was dismissive and showed little understanding of the wide ranging and varied nature disabilities. It may be true that many disabled people do not own cars and do not drive. But they do use cars and need often to be driven. To dismiss concerns as merely...
I also note that there was no facility for people with impaired hearing to read rather than listen to the webinar. The whole thing was a pat on the back exercise. There was no real discussion on whether LTNs achieve what they set out to, and no discussion of any ongoing problems
There was also discussion by Clyde about the changing in work practises. People working from home want to enjoy their local neighbourhood. While this is true it ignores the huge numbers of people who cannot work from home and may have to drive for their job or to get to their job
The delivery drivers, essential during a pandemic, nurses and carers who work in the community trades'men' plus many others we have relied on during such a difficult 12 months. What a privileged world you must live in Clyde that everyone is able to work from home.
What have LTNs done to their working day and therefore to their family and home life ? No discussion on the effect this has had on the many people who live/work/catch buses/go to school on the boundary roads that now take all of that diverted traffic. None. Apalling!
Shame on you all.
... just for clarification I live inside the 'quiet oasis' of an LTN. I walk/drive an EV/my adult daughter cycles. If the price of this 'oasis' is to choke and blight the lives my neighbours and their children, it is too high a price to expect anyone to pay.
Really good scientists adapt their hypothesis when new well researched information comes to light......it seems to me that proponents and defenders of LTNs are following a religious belief and nothing will sway them from this belief.
