i feel like it's slightly underreported that the whole GameStop fiasco resulted in what appears to be an actual doomsday cult predicated on the shared delusion of a huge short squeeze that will send GameStop shares into the millions, completely crashing the global economy
there are multiple subreddits dedicated to this, and it's wild how quickly they adopted the tendencies of a full-blown cult: inaccessible lingo, deep mistrust of outsiders. just wild shit
to be clear, there are communities with hundreds of thousands of members that are predicated on the idea that gamestop stock will potentially reach 10 million dollars PER SHARE
the sad part is this shit all seems to come from a good place. these guys are frustrated by market manipulation by hedge funds/banks and want to control their own destiny. but the tone was really quickly absorbed by dreams of what almost reads like deliverance from capitalism
