I'll start sharing bits and pieces of information on what now appears to be a personal research project I'm setting some spare time for, which looks into #Albanian #hiphop. I got no timeline of clear framework yet, but have put notes aside since 2012, so here you go: #THREAD
Having got a bit of confidence in my poststructuralist discourse analysis based on the works of #Baudrillard, especially since many of you wrote to me following @JCMS_EU 59/2, suppressed motivation and ideas are coming out, so bear with me as I turn to local issues and discourses
Unless, somehow miraculously, I find a new path (University, Mentor, #PhDChat) to complete and defend my #PhD, most of which is by now published, I will continue to publish on EU, power and discourse, of course. This new book, however, is slow, long and so far pretty amazing.
I'm compiling a #methodology which includes multimodal discourse analysis of texts and images, in combination with, wait for it, participant observation. Side note: any #musicologists wishing to waste time with me for proper enlightenment, please get in touch. It's a weak spot.
Unlike in my original thinking, I will not include any old-school poetry analysis or any content analysis, at least not properly so. It's a book, people, I wanna write free, at last. The scope is currently limited to #Kosovo's hip hop, although I could easily include #Albania.
So far, I have a pile of notes and scribbles, which I intend to put in order the next few weekends. I have no idea as to how, when and where is this project going. That means, I might be soon looking for collaborators, assistants, publishers, brains to storm with & any advice.
Today I'll share something fresh, as I just heard it, and it's a line from @bardhkupa, freestyling, that says "hunda vize lype cdo dite si emigrant' te ambasada" (nostrils asking for lines(visa) every day like migrants at the embassies). Yes, I'm ignoring cocaine reference here.
Let's talk about #VisaFreeTravel for #Kosovo, again and again. I heard this reference, coincidentally, just after reading about the speech of @luigidimaio on the same issue, visa free travel, which has now become intrinsic to discourses in the country, not sparing #hiphop.
In a review, published last month in Albanian language, I was looking at how @LyricalSon and @ShemsiKreshta use the discourse of immigration and the notion of a "criminal immigrant" in their last song entitled exactly the same. And I'm realizing not only how understudied and how
underrated the entire hip hop culture is, but also how powerful it is and how it is shaped, functions and develops virtually with the overly politicized public discourse, where European #integration and #democracy discourses are way too dominant. So keen to interrogate it further
and will keep tweeting about this occasionally. Like, you're gonna thank me after watching this video of this guy from central town of #Ferizaj in #Kosovo (timecode link, watch the whole show if you have time). End of #Thread
