#Thread My Grandfather, Dr. Ram Janma Singh, breathed his last at around 7:15 pm today. He was the past Nat'nal President of #IMA the personal physician to former Bihar CM S N Sinha ji, & one of the most eminent doctors of #Bihar. The doctors on my TL wouldn't know this but (1/n)
the resolution to observe Doctor's Day on July 1 (Dr. BC Roy's birth anniversary) every year, was passed by the @IMAIndiaOrg under his Presidentship.

I remember finding his CV once, that is till date the most impressive CV that I have every laid my eyes on Apart from being 2/n
a recipient of the prestigious Dr. B C Roy award among scores of other accolades, he earned the lifetime gratitude of thousands, esp the poor and needy because of his service in the government hospitals. We grew up seeing people recall his name with such fondness. He had 3/n
treated someone's mother, someone's brother, and even strangers who just came from the village because they knew they could count on "Ram Janam Babu" in Patna. 4/n
For us, he was only our dadaji. My sister & I attribute our milk tea love to him & dadima, who would sit with their tea in the mornings on the terrace. Their tea 'glasses' covered with quarter plates. When we looked with longing eyes, both would give us tea in those plates :) 5/n
During summers, he would ensure that we leave water on the terrace for the birds to drink, something that we continue to do till today. He would tell us stories, his favorite being how he would send his roomate & best friend Dr S N Arya to play while he studied from his notes!5/n
During the lockdown last yr, I was in Patna. I would feed him, teach him, encourage him to speak(he would hardly speak &could barely listen even with a hearing aid.)Even gave him a haircut for which he sat through patiently. He was so sharp even at this age that it amazed me. 6/n
I would write down questions and ask him to speak or write. I asked him once "who is Ajit (my father's name)?" To which he replied Mera bhai hai (he's my brother) and laughed out loud like a mischievous child....7/n
Today, I made close to 50 calls. For oxygen. Cylinders, refills, anything. We tried getting him admitted. Nothing worked. I could only pray in the end that it was painless for him. I don't know how long he would've lived otherwise but it was ironical that a doctor of his 8/n
stature couldn't get a shot at living some more for the lack of oxygen in the city. As I mourn the loss of my grandfather, my heart goes out to the countless families who have lost a dear one in this pandemic.

I hope we get the strength to move on with the good memories 9/n
