And while we're talking about trauma and burnout, let's have a Texas state capitol where women reporters and lobbyists and staffers don't have to go to work every day knowing they may be sexually assaulted by a colleague without anything even closely resembling accountability https://twitter.com/TumaTime/status/1386717430911840264
I was angry and exhausted by what I found when I reported on #txlege sexism in 2013. In 2017, I was in despair that there were so many untold stories. I worked hard to name the men and follow-up on those stories but, many are still working the same jobs today.
It strikes me that it may sound biased to say that I want better for the #txlege. But consider what you're asking when you ask women journalists not to advocate for a safe workplace. You think we don't have an emotional stake in that?
Women shouldn't have to fear they'll be groped or forcibly kissed or drugged at their workplace. That workplace is the state legislature. That's the people's building. It shouldn't be used to carry out the twisted sexual whims of the men in power who work there.
