I really appreciate this kind of transparency. Neoliberalism is an attempt to democratize free market capitalism/slavery. It’s an attempt to turn the “former” plantation into markets/consumerism, to prove that slavery is not inherently evil bc everyone eats off it, even the slave https://twitter.com/andrehenry/status/1386709316070215684
As @ColonizedLocal would say: “the markets used to be regulated in a way that surplus commodities and capital would be redirected towards stabilizing the state.”
For example: The profitability of Black liberation movements. Neoliberalism is what corporatizes Black suffering. For democracy to cohere it tells us to make resistance a 1st amendment right and a market. Repackage the struggle to t-shirts & Cadillac sponsorships.
Revolution becomes academic jargon with 50k speaking fees. I wanted to understand neoliberalism beyond “deregulating markets.” I wanted to understand how it related to anti-Blackness. What i realized was how the plantation was repackaged as Black social mobility.
The easiest way for me to put it is the repackaging of slavery & all the ways slavery can be made palatable so that it could be consumed within a market economy that everyone could participate in. Not for Black progress but for capitalism.
The quickest way to Understand the deregulation/privatization of markets and property is by looking at the prison industrial complex.
The repackaging is in the Democratization not the inherent relation of slavery. Slavery doesn’t transform, “It’s realtional.” But, the market does. Democracy finds its stability and coherence in the slave’s (non)progress narrative..
To put simply, democracy is the neoliberal ruse.
