Darren Tierney, head of propriety and ethics, says Lex Greensill was an unpaid advisor to the government on supply chain finance from January 2012 to January 2015. He also became crown representative until 2016.
Greensill had a security pass for the Cabinet Office and Downing Street, Tierney said. He was given security clearance several months after his appointment.

Simon Case said although Greensill had access to Downing Street, it is unclear whether he was working there or what he did
Case said the Cabinet Office has been unable to find any contract stipulating on what terms Lex Greensill was working for the government.
Simon Case doesn't think double hatting of civil servants with the private sector is acceptable but added "I can't explain the Greensill case"
Extraordinary stuff from Simon Case on whether Lex Greensill had a conflict of interest:

"We can't explain. It looks like there were conflicts and we're not clear on how they were managed. From our cursory look, we can't see the evidence...that doesn't look right."
Case said there's around a hundred civil servants who have secondary outside roles, but none pose a conflict of interest
