Selhurst Park to the King Power, via Filbert Street

Leicester are one of the teams I’ve seen most, no doubt they’ve picked up more trophies than us but we’ve often been in the same division together. So many memories, I only touch on a few so please share yours.

Show us your stats.....

Matches: 62

Grounds: 9

Goals for 77, against 90

Leicester won 19, drawn 17, lost 26

Biggest wins & losses: 4-1 Rotherham, 0-5 Palace

I’ve seen Palace win.....24 times

Most goals in a game: 8 (4-4)
Do you remember the first time:

My first Leicester game was Dec ‘78 & a 3-1 victory which put us top of Division 2 (Championship). Jimboyo gave us the lead, Swindlehurst got our second from the spot before Mike Elwiss scored a lovely 3rd.
Favourite game: Five alive!

The pinnacle of Roy’s tenure. A 5-0 victory at Selhurst to all but secure safety. The style of football, a joy to watch, Wilf & McAthur both netted from passing moves before RLC waltzed around the keeper. Tekkers topped it with a comedy penalty.
A trip to Filbert Street:

The KP may have been built a stones throw away from Filbert Str but that’s where the comparisons end. An old school ground with a feisty atmosphere. The netting up between the home & away end didn’t stop coins & golf balls. Outside was always lively.
Worst game: Wembley ‘96

Let’s get it out the way, this one hurt, it hurt for a whole 12 months until Hopkin curled one.

Beforehand, at Finchley Road the Baby Squad & D30 went at each other, I just wanted to have a wee! Andy Robert’s gave us the lead, you know the rest.
Best goal: Nov ‘00

Struggling in the 2nd tier, we travelled to Filbert Street to take on Leicester in the cup. A defeat was expected, a brilliant 0-3 victory is what we got. Thompson had already scored a great goal before a wonder strike from Andrej Rubins from 30 yards
Random game: Rotherham v Leicester

In a hotel ‘up North’ when I spotted the chance to ✅ the Don Valley Stadium for a Carling Cup game. Sven’s men fell behind early on but ran out comfortable 4-1 winners thanks to a debut 2nd half hat-trick from guess who? Rhythm is a dancer....
Magic moment: Bakary Sako

Leicester 4 straights wins, Palace in the drop zone & without an away goal all season, it’s the week before Xmas!

Wilf’s on fire, the kit is pure sex, it’s 2-0 deep into injury time when RLC sets up Sako to smash 1 with his left peg in off the post.
I was there moment!

Signed from Juve, Michele Padovano looked some signing, he had scored a goal in a European Cup Final 12 months previously. Needless to say, it didn’t work out, ‘Goal Finger’ as he was known only celebrated once, an away draw at Filbert Street.
Last game: Nov ‘19

17 months since we could all be together to watch a Palace v Leicester.

Maguire sold, our great recent run versus them came to a halt. The Foxes were superb on the day, Vardy was wound up by the Holmesdale, needless to say he scored & gave it back. 0-2.
He played for both clubs: Damo

A fairytale ending to a career that started in England at Leicester. A decade after leaving the Foxes yer man showed up at Selhurst & turned ours & his fortunes around. A leader & a fine defender. He got us up & kept us there.

There we go. Thx for reading & RT’s are appreciated.

Arguably the maddest game between the two sides I haven’t even mentioned, a crazy Saturday in ‘88. Please share your memories.

Up the Palace.
