When @robroc analyzed data on country-wide #COVID19 cases and vaccinations from @GovCanHealth, a clear trend emerged. Yes, Canada is in a third wave of case growth, but as more people 80+ got vaccinated, their rate of infection dropped in a big way. Comparison below:
Here's how Canada's second and third waves played out: notice how the age ranges follow a similar path for hospitalizations, but after more people 80+ started getting vaccinated, their rate of being hospitalized with #COVID19 dropped more than younger adults.
As for deaths, here's a look at long-term care residents compared to Canada's general population, with the #COVID19 death toll absolutely plummeting among those vulnerable seniors as more and more of them got vaccinated. Incredible to see.
Also, here's where we're at in terms of vaccinations across Canada. Close to a third of Canadians have now had one dose; only 3% are fully vaccinated. Here in hard-hit Ontario it's only 2%. Far more people have got both rounds in the North. Still a long way to go, country-wide.
