At the #TNleg, lots of folks are focusing on the torrent of bad bills, like the #SlateofHate & anti-vax measures.

While those are scary enough, something that’s flown under the radar is the true agenda of this session - the total concentration of power around the GOP majority.
Bill after bill exists only to strip power from other sources:

-cities & municipalities
-judiciary & courts
-health dept
-even the Governor

And channels it back under the direct control of the GOP legislative majority.

With redistricting on the horizon, it’s only looking worse
I’m not saying don’t get mad when the GOP attacks trans children — get mad!

But you gotta stay mad for these low key, insidious measures that represent a radical attempt at total domination.

And understand how these separate tactics are LINKED.
You are meant to get furious about anti-abortion bills. They know you’ll put up a fight against them.

But they’re betting you won’t understand a bill that would create a new chancery court, or 1 that would move the county where certain cases are heard. And so you’ll let it slide
Don’t fall for misdirection. Educate yourself:

-follow trusted sources that cover the Capitol: @TNLookout, @NPostPolitics, @tnjournal, @Tennessean, etc

-call your legislators- EVEN IF THEY ARE DEMS. Don’t assume anything.

-support legal groups like @aclutn & watch for lawsuits
Read the bills & watch the Legislature in action. Every piece of legislation is available to search at https://www.capitol.tn.gov

If you go to the “schedule” tab, you can watch live committee meetings & Floor sessions.
And finally, try to remember that we are all in this together. We are up against the most powerful structures in the state & the outside forces that prop them up.

(If you thought taking them on was going to be fun, or dramatically epic, you were wrong. It’s hard & boring.)
And it is SO EASY to focus on the flaws of your allies when our resources are so scarce.

But your friends - even friends you disagree with 10% of the time - are the greatest resource any of us have left. Strength in numbers.
