As @history_uk stresses, the personal distress caused by this news cannot be downplayed. Each job threatened also has implications for our discipline, which thrives on a strong community of historians 2/4

The news is particularly distressing as the History programmes concerned engage meaningfully with issues of diversity and inclusion. The importance of this has been highlighted by a series of reports by e.g. the @RoyalHistSoc 3/4
