* An individual feels an intense conviction that the Lord wants them to do something
* They try to engage the whole church in their enthusiasm, suggesting their passion should be everyone’s
* When they eventually stop they appeal that the church should adopt and continue it
* Other people do the same with the things that they are passionate about

Suddenly the church has become the sum of the individual passions of the members, and possibly a competition between them for resources. Refereed by pastors who can never please everyone
God’s calling on an individual is not the same thing as his calling on a church. A church isn’t being unfaithful if it doesn’t get behind something. In fact it may neglect and be distracted from its calling if it does
Churches accrete activities far more easily than they shed them. Shedding them has pastoral consequences

The result has been described as “zombie ministries”. Dead & past their sell-by date but delicate or impossible to stop for pastoral reasons or because of emotional blackmail
