New research funded by @NuffieldFound makes projections of inheritances to be received by those born in the 1960s, 1970s & 1980s.

For those born in the 80s, average inheritances compared to lifetime income are projected to be almost twice as large as for those born in the 60s
Those who have higher incomes themselves are likely to inherit larger sums. But, on average, inheritances are projected to be a similar share of lifetime income for low- and high-income households, meaning a modest impact on inequality measures...
…but inheritances are set to be more important in increasing inequalities between those with richer and poorer parents, reducing social mobility and tying lifetime incomes increasingly to the wealth of family members.
