Robert Malley is the Biden administration's point man on negotiations with Iran.

Here's what he has to say about Hamas which may offer a glimpse of the administration's view on Iran.
"One of the big fallacies of policy makers is to think that if you weaken the other side you're in a better position to make a deal. You want a strong Palestinian leadership. You want a strong partner & legit one so that they can sell those compromises to their people."
"Hezbollah and Hamas the 2 most prominent groups... It's a mistake only to think about them in terms of their terrorist violence dimension they're social political movements probably the most rooted movements in their respective societies"
Contrast comments on Hamas with what Malley has to say about the Palestinian Authority

"Within the PA, within the leadership, the leadership is completely divorced from its people"

"I blame Israeli policy, US policy, the Palestinians are the ones suffering most"
"Hamas not majority among Palestinians by any means but very deeply rooted, born in the first Intifada...it has deep loyalty, it has a charity org, a social branch, it's not something you can defeat militarily either and people need to understand that"
Hint for those looking at Iran: "If Hamas is not allowed to govern, if we squeeze them & you may have good reason for that, I'll tell you what the reaction will be; rockets & consolidation of Hamas power in Gaza and both things happened."

No more squeezing Iran?
