One of my seniors at National Law University J passed away yesterday while battling with COVID. A mail was sent to us informing this and informing that the postponed day of the test to be conducted today. A condolence meeting was held which lasted for 5 mins. Literally. #NLUJ
Al the participants in the meeting were mandatorily muted. While the teachers and students were crying on the screen, the Vice Chancellor spoke 2 sentences for the departed soul followed by a 2 min silence in a 5 minute meeting. The meeting was immediately ended after this.
None of his teachers, none of his friends and none of his family members of NLUJ were allowed to say anything in his remembrance. #NLUJ
His name was Vikalp, god bless his soul. His classmates share with us that while he was fighting for his life in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask on the ventilator, he asked his friends to login his classes so that he can meet the attendance criteria. #NLUJ
In his last days, he talked about tests, classes and projects. He worried about them. #NLUJ
This comes after the students body at NLUJ has been requesting the administration to give some days off considering the hopeless situation in the country. #NLUJ
All we asked for was some relaxation of the 70% attendance criteria, postponement or cancellation of tests and yes, some empathy and humanity. #NLUJ
The administration responded to us with utmost lack of support and empathy. This was the response.

The staff is suffering too so you should suffer together? I don’t think that’s very kind or logical. #NLUJ
We don’t ask much from this administration. We even accepted their response to our needs, to some extent. While we along with our families battle with COVID, we continued worrying for tests and classes and exams. We accepted their response because we thought what more can we do.
What we can’t accept is the continuing lack of empathy and humanity when we lost our family member. Our very own. Their very own. #NLUJ
On a personal note, I didn’t know him. I don’t even know what he looked like. But my heart breaks while thinking of him and his close ones. And this is what a family is. And the whole student community at NLUJ is so sorry and so heartbroken. May his soul rest in peace. #NLUJ
I just pray we don’t have to attend any more condolence meetings.
