Today marks the start of Cambridge International exams across the country. A thread on the importance of NOT cancelling the exams and what our reasoning behind this decision is:
1) Cambridge has been responsible for assuring the govt that STRICT SOPS will be followed and are being followed. Ppl on social media are sharing old pics of exam halls. Here's what the hall actually looks like:
2) Those who do not want to appear for exams right now have been given the option to sit the exams in oct/nov using the same fee they have paid for this session. Following are the guidelines by cambridge:
3) Teacher assissted grades and the issue of expected grades: Using such methods of evaluation bring more confusion and chaos to a system that is already suffering from vulnerability and other stresses.
4) Such inaccurate grades will make it difficult for getting into local and foreign universities in this years admission rounds.
Also, a large number of private students who sit the exams privately have no way of being assessed under such an evaluatory scheme.
5) We understand that this is a difficult time and there are some that are upset with thia situation. However, we ars trying our best to assure that the progress of this cycle's students is not lost and they do not waste their time.
6) Any person who does not sufficiently feel ready for the exams this time around (mentally or otherwise) HAS some respite and recourse provided by Cambridge this year. Cancelling the exam season is sadly NOT an option for the govt
7) I will personally be visiting exam halls around Islamabad today to check and ensure how strictly the SOPs are being followed and will share real pictures of scenes on the ground.
8) Please go through with the exams or make use of the option to sit for them in oct/nov. This is a testing and trying time for us all and we understand your concerns but not taking them now will result in more problems in the future.
Even last year in May/ June 2020 students were given assessed grades but then also the facility that they can take Oct_ Nov with half the fee if they are not satisfied with their SAGs. Exams are the most reliable way of assessing students.
Lastly, 78% of students around the world are taking exams. Where within a reasonable time frame conditions seemed adverse, counties were switched to SAGs.

UK is not taking exam due to equity issues not because of COVID
