the oscars are a terrible racist institution that no one should care about bc meritocracy, especially as defined by old white people, must be eradicated. We believe against hierarchy and the imperial gaze. HOWEVER...
nomadland is very cool and very good! gorgeous and thoughtful. v exciting to see chloe zhao get recognition for excellent work and also the opportunity to create newer, truer american narratives. she's so clear and inventive.
the placement of the best actor announcement and chadwick's loss was just awful. the category was uncommonly stacked with great work from steven yeun and especially riz ahmed as well
we love youn yuh-jung and daniel kaluuya. great people who did great work and blew everyone else away, imo (even though lakeith stanfield is very good and so so pretty). i cannot express my love for that woman and the specific vitality she brought
i am promising young woman hive!! i think a screenplay win is very apt for this film. clever, well delivered, resonant, and beautiful. would definitely win if there were awards for casting and set design as well.
i do wish sound of metal and wolfwalkers (and over the moon) had been recognized more! riz tore it up.
