but also towards the end when rengoku is fighting upper moon three like tanjiro is forced to watch basically someone he looks up to +

fight to their death, the one time he’s actually there and “can do something” and i use this loosely because there was no way in hell tanjiro was fighting even in his best conditions he watched as rengoku basically sacrificed his life protecting him, and in the end

he still lost because upper moon three gets away, and in rengokus final moments tanjiros cursing himself for not being strong enough to do anything for rengoku not even finish off the demon
