🚨👇 WHY PARAMORE WAS SNUBBED AT THE OSCARS IN 2009: A THREAD 👇🚨
in 2008, Paramore released the song Decode for the soundtrack of Twilight. The song peaked at 24 on the billboard charts and received wide critical praise. It was eligible for a Best Original Song nomination at the Oscars
it would have been eligible for a nomination in 2009, which it did not receive. As you can see, there were fewer nominations that year than the year prior, so there was no reason to not nominate Decode.
I don't think I need to remind anyone how huge the Twilight pandemonium was. If it wasn't deserving of other nominations, it earned an acknowledgement from the academy
None of the nominees that year were on the radio. None of them were packing concerts. And none of them were on Jimmy Kimmel. Decode was one of the best rock songs of the 2000s
the winner of Best Original Song that year was Slumdog Millionaire's song Jai Ho. The film took home 7 other Oscars that year including Best Picture and Best Director. They could have afforded to spare one
Given Twilight's cultural dominance that year, and given that there were fewer nominees in the Best Original Song category than in previous years, the only explanation for Paramore's absence is a deliberate slighting of girl culture by the Academy.
but the Academy aren't the arbiters of culture as they want to believe. Decode didn't get its flowers at the Oscars but it still gets sung to packed arenas a decade later. idk why i made this thread it was better in my head
