Since we’re on this nonsense again....
My clinic bills $155 for a 45 minute session. That DOES NOT mean I get paid $155. It means the most we could possibly collect for that session is $155. After negotiated insurance rates, write offs, sliding scale clients, etc....

We *actually collect* an average of about $90 a session. To make the math easier let’s say $100.
My fee split means I get 60% of that. So $60 a session. $60 an hour doesn’t sound terrible, does it?

Well, for every hour I spend in session I have to do 30-45 mins unpaid labor in phone calls, emails, notes, consultation, and other admin stuff.
Factor all that in, my pre-tax income is about $40 an hour. For a job that requires a doctoral degree. A degree that I spent about $250k to get. And my pay is above average for the job I have.
Compare that to an MD’s salary.

“BuT i ThOuGhT yOu WaNtEd tO hElP pEoPlE” I can’t help anyone if I can’t put food on my table.
Yes, mental health needs to be affordable and accessible. But we also need to get paid. Both of these things are equally important.
