Residents of the Mozaic apartments adjacent to Union Station have had a rough few weeks. Dana Wilkie, who hung a sign in her window reading OSCARS SUCK, says it’s been a “living nightmare” #Oscars
Mozaic residents have a pretty good view of the red carpet, which is happening just over a fence at the main entrance to Union Station, but in order to board a train they have to go all the way around to the back of the station #Oscars
The entrance to the courtyard was open for pedestrian access until a few days ago but now it’s exactly where the red carpet is located https://twitter.com/APEntertainment/status/1386384983850422276?s=20 https://twitter.com/apentertainment/status/1386384983850422276
Mozaic resident @somuchpanash was also concerned about increased security after recent police violence.

"We didn't ask for this. We weren't compensated for this. And in no way is it fair or reasonable to shut down a public utility and make it inaccessible to the public" #Oscars
This narrow, dark sidewalk is the only way for local residents, and anyone else coming from the front of the station, to access all @metrolosangeles trains and buses #Oscars
From the south side of Union Station, security guards were directing people up this bus ramp to get to trains and buses. There were quite a few people walking this way. Would not recommend #Oscars
More later, but even though many of Union Station's vendors were closed, Wetzel's Pretzels was, indeed, open. It had been a slower than normal day, one worker told me, and they planned to close early, but they were trying to make the best of it #Oscars
For people asking if I saw any signage. Absolutely nothing for pedestrian detours. Bus stops had a long list of information taped to posts. Some station-specific signage but only inside #Oscars
I got excited when I saw this map but realized it was walking directions to the new busway station that were unusable that day due to the station closure (hence my walk up the ramp) #Oscars
Plenty of wayfinding signage for limos and valet. These Oscar-branded signs and cones lined block after block after block, over the 101 and all the way up and down Temple in both directions. Yet no signs or lane closures for pedestrians #Oscars
There was a Dodger game at 4pm today and Union Station is where fans catch the free shuttle to the stadium. I talked to the Velascos who took Metrolink from Fontana but didn’t make their usual trip to Olvera Street for pre-game beers due to the closures #Oscars
Olvera Street seemed to be faring okay, despite a huge fence around it and confusion from people not knowing if it was open. Alonso Arellano, the owner of Chiguacle, said on game days the restaurant was usually 75% Dodger fans but that was not the case today
On the way out spotted @UNITEHERE11 outside who have been doing #BoycottChateauMarmont actions all week including flying a sign over the #Oscars https://twitter.com/unitehere11/status/1386449909348331522?s=21
Also ran into @SamBraslow and @emilyytayylor who got some great interviews with Mozaic residents like @somuchpanash — please share their thoughts, including a direct plea to #Oscars producers https://twitter.com/SamBraslow/status/1386523506007965698
