Curious cuz I don’t actually know but has anyone ever read any statement at any point from SE or the original Square about Vincent Valentine being based on Brandon Lee’s portrayal of Eric Draven AKA The Crow? Cuz it’s so fucking obvious and beautiful.
Like, I’ve never seen it be acknowledged, but their choice to have Vic Chao voice Tseng in the North American release is really beautiful too, because of Vic’s career being really tied to the lasting influence in popular media of BRUCE Lee.
FURTHERMORE, many people forgot this movie or erased it entirely from their memory due to how Bruce Lee’s son died 8 days before they wrapped the movie, and it’s really sad. It’s probably my favorite movie of all time.
I’ve considered it might just be an oversight or unintentional, but Brandon missed the 27 club by a year—he was 28 when he passed. He was shot on set accidentally by what was supposed to be a blank because he did his own stunts in the tradition of his dad.
Vincent died at 27. He’ll always be 27 no matter how “old” he is because he is dead. His birthday—October 13th—is an anagram of 31. Plus...the love story of Vincent and Lucrecia is very interesting when you look at it with the Eric Draven angle.
Brandon Lee died March 31st, 1993 by the way....
He died pretty much a month and change after turning 28.
I hope that if there is a Heaven and if the 27 Club has a weekly meeting, that Brandon Lee got in, cuz he deserves that kinda exception IMO.
Sometimes I think about Keanu Reeves and how he’s literally like the modern day living legacy of Brandon Lee and it makes me tear up because if you loved The Crow and Bruce Lee and Brandon Lee there’s a good chance you really love The Matrix and John Wick.
I hope if you made it through this thread and you didn’t know any of this you look at the line “I know Kung Fu” differently.
It can’t rain all the time.
Even when it does—think of the power of a legacy.
