Imagine being able to buy website names like YourName .com or Wine .com in the early 1990s for cheap.

You have that change with crypto names via ENS & HNS.

Here's a guide to set up your ENS name in less than 10 minutes with @ensdomains & @oneseventwonine

Thread ⬇️
First things first: you will need to have some $ETH & a software wallet.

If you don't have any ETH, you can buy some in the Rainbow app or sign up for coinbase.

Here is my coinbase referral link for $10 in BTC when you sign up https://www.coinbase.com/join/kiii_YUUn7w
For software wallets:

If you have an iPhone, I'd recommend @rainbowdotme

If you have an Android or want to use this on a browser, go with @MetaMask

When downloading your wallet, make sure to handwrite your seed phrase and store it with great care - think birth certificate.
It's critical to note that ENS domains DO NOT work with wallets on exchanges like coinbase or binance

Once you have your software wallet make sure your ETH balance is between .075 & .1

ENS domains do not cost this much. But wiggle room is required for transactions.
For those who need to transfer out of coinbase or another exchange:

Buy ETH.

Click 'Send / Receive'

Copy your software wallet address and paste it in the 'To' line

Choose ETH amount

Send it and then head over to http://etherscan.io  ( @etherscan )
On Etherscan, simply paste your software wallet address in the search bar.

At the bottom, you should see your transaction listed. This should only take a few minutes to confirm and show up in your software wallet.

Once confirmed, go to http://app.ens.domains  ( @ensdomains)
When you get to the ENS app, just search the name you want to register.

Then connect your wallet by clicking connect in the top left corner.

MetaMask connect works if you are in browser on the same platform, otherwise click WalletConnect.
Wallet connect has a few variations depending on how you need to connect

If you are in browser on mobile and the wallet is on your phone, WalletConnect should prompt you to open the wallet app to connect

Otherwise, it will show a QR code you scan with the wallet app
Once connected, choose how long you want to register and click 'Request to register'

Then open your wallet app. There should be a push notification for a "test" transaction.

This test is to confirm the wallet has sufficient funds and you can access it - so click 'Confirm.'
Then refresh the ENS app to make sure it has moved to step 2 and is processing the request to register.

Once the 'Register' button turns green, click it and open your software wallet again.

You should have another transaction request. This is the real one - so click 'Confrim'
Now the real fun: Head back to http://etherscan.io  and confirm that the registration transaction is processing.

This part may take a while - sometimes 3 minutes, sometimes 3 hours.

But once it's confirmed, the ENS app will look like this when it's connected to the wallet
And now, you can have people send ANY ERC-20 token to that ENS name - no more obtuse wallet addresses.

You can also add in other addresses like $BTC & $DOGE under your account setting page.
Shout out to @balajis & @oneseventwonine for inspiring this thread and @ensdomains for building.

Special love for @rainbowdotme because I can showoff my name as an NFT (and those sweet, sweet $SOCKS)

If anyone wants to pad my $SOCKS bag, I won't say no.
