Academics from India, Brazil and countries that are terribly impacted by the pandemic are beyond exhausted, anxious and sad...living away from home, not knowing when they will see their family (if they survive) still trying to be “productive”...
In summary - just don’t do it! 1/n https://twitter.com/hima_lakkaraju/status/1386379135136800769
Someone who can start a line with “I know about the mass cremations” and ends it with romanticising hard work during unprecedented crises is a SOCIOPATH....If what he is saying is true, how are those academics in India whose pushing themselves to submit reviews on time? How? 2/n
Because of the constant pressure of of being an active contributor to/making impact in the field even if it means volunteering your time during crises..the system needs to do better and not glorify the idea of academics working themselves into the ground to make an “impact” 3/n
Everything about this thread makes me so angry and sad. An Associate Professor at Harvard experienced this so I can’t even imagine how this “senior academic” treats students and early career researchers...lack of empathy, work/life balance and decency should not be celebrated 4/n
