Everyone agrees that Trudeau and Ford have done a horrific job of handling the pandemic,
so they will both get defeated in the next election, right?

Wrong.

PREDICTION: They will both be re-elected with a majority.

Here's why:

/1
First, we don't vote FOR a politician, we vote AGAINST the other guy.
Was 78-year-old Biden the best candidate?
No, but the majority liked him better than the old guy.
McGuinty and Wynne had 15 years in power; the people decided that was enough, so they gave Ford a majority.

/2
You may say "but Trudeau has been a disaster. He didn't get enough vaccine, he didn't shut down international travel, etc."
True, but he gave everyone CERB, and other support, so most will not vote against him.
Second, who else are you going to vote for?
The other guys?

/3
But the third and most important reason that Trudeau will win a majority is because, in Ontario, we never vote for the same party federally and provincially.

Since Diefenbaker left office in 1963, how many years have we had the same party in power federally and in Ontario?

We had the Joe Clark hiccup from June 1979 to March 1980 while Bill Davis was the Premier, and from 2016 to 2018 the Wynne and Trudeau governments overlapped.
That's it.

/6
So, Trudeau will win easily this year, which will lead to Ford winning easily next year.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

That's just how it works.
