mikagura school suite is a multimedia music project created by vocaloid producer last note. it follows the story of a girl named eruna ichinomiya and her experiences at mikagura academy: a school where you can only join culture themed clubs.

mikagura started out as a song series, with gumi at the vocals, and animated mvs created for 6 out of the 10 songs. these songs are:
houkago stride
mukiryoku coup d'etat
uchouten vivace
garakuta innocence
izayoi seeing
esoragoto spiral

the songs without mvs are:
hanafubuki reflect
kakushinteki heroism
seikirara candy
fujouri roulette
overture

these songs can be found on youtube but are without english translations. hanafubuki reflect is the only song out of these who's translation can be found on the wiki+

at least to my knowledge.

mikagura was eventually adapted into a light novel series containing 8 volumes and a manga series containing 6, and even received an anime adaptation in 2015. however, despite all this content, mikagura remains a dead fanbase and an unpopular series. why is that?

from what i was told, one peace books, who were publishing the translated english novels and manga, ceased production due to the series being unsuccessful in sales. only 3 of the 6 manga volumes, and the first light novel, have been translated to english for wester audiences.

the anime adaptation can be easily found wherever you watch anime. despite not being the best adaptation of the series, it is the best way of getting a grasp of the story and an inevitable route if you're not a japanese speaker who can get a hold of the original novels or manga.+

scanlations of the manga online have not gone past the first volume from what i can find, so unfortunately a manga only route is not possible. the same goes for translations of the light novel uploaded online to light novel sites.

you can get into mikagura however you want, but it is rather hard due to the lack of translated content. so, here's what i suggest
1. the songs (mainly those with mvs)
2. (optional) buy the first 3 manga volumes and/or light novel
3. the anime

the songs are your best introduction as it was mikagura's source material, and are easiest to find. if you don't wish to buy the manga just yet but still want to go that route, the first volume is up on quite a few manga websites from what i can find.+

after this, it's the anime from here. again, it's not the best adaptation, but if you truly are interested in this series it tells the complete story.

i've talked a lot about how you should get into it, but, why should you? what's so special about this series that i'm making such a lengthy thread dedicated to it?

before i begin, i would like to state a few possible triggers. mikagura does not contain much, and what it does contain is minimal, but i feel i should address them no matter what.

• incest (one sided, the other thinks he's weird)

to keep things as brief as possible, mikagura's characters resonated with me on another level. their struggles and relationships with each other are so interesting to dissect and fun to create stuff out of. despite having such +

a simple plot, you can create so many things out of this series. these characters are truly unique to me.
though the lgbt representation contains outdated stereotypes, there are existing lgbt coded characters within this series that may be of interest to some.+

eruna, the main character, is a canonical lesbian. asuhi imizu, a recurring character, is trans coded. two minor yet recurring characters of the same sex are implied to be more than friends and may have feelings for each other. and there are more little hints like these.

i really think this series deserves a little more popularity. i want to share this series with others in hopes that it may bring the same joy to others as it has for me for so long.
