surabaya zoo, also known as kebun binatang surabaya is the one of the largest zoos in south east asia, covering 37 acres and housing over 350 species. Tte zoo has fallen into disrepute however, with allegations of corruption, neglect, uncontrolled breeding and cruelty.

surabaya zoo is a nightmare, plagued by uncontrolled breeding, a lack of funding for general animal welfare, and even persistent suspicions that members of its own staff are involved in illegal wildlife trafficking.

this is a moon bear who's suffering from a skin tumor inside a cage in the quarantine section of the zoo.

kliwon (30 yr old male african giraffe) was k!lled bc he had a 40 pound ball of plastic in his stomach

this elephant, fitri 35 yr old, 1 of 10 elephants at the zoo, she wqs suffering from swollen joints in her leg.

the zoo underwent many reports saying that 25 out of it's 4,000 animals die each MONTH, most of them prematurely.

one of the zoo's biggest issues is it's overcrowding. most zoo's limit the amount of animals born into captivity. "contraceptives are expensive and there are not adequate facilities to separate males and females, as a result species are to excess."

this zoo needs to be shut down PERMANENTLY. this animals need immediate professional care

someone just let me know that that was old news from 2012, & things got better after the management got transferred to pemkot surabaya around 2014. here's the link:
