While I wait for Roam to develop a better mobile experience, I've tried many quick capture tools and recently settled on Apple Notes.

Here is why -
• Meet the "table stakes"
• Differentiators: enable screenshots/images

+ some advanced tips to enable on-the-go users 👇
1/ Why Apple Notes?

Table stakes
•Cross-device quick sync
•Create a new note + attach to an existing note
•Search

Differentiator
•Attach screenshots (the reason I switched from Drafts)
--
2 tips
•Use iOS Shortcut to dictatev+vcapture notes
•Tag with text expander
2/ I switched from Draft to Apple Notes due to my needs to capture screenshots.

I am a visual thinker.

I take screenshots from FB, Twitter, Insta, etc. Not being able to save and view them visually was what ultimately drove me from Drafts to Apple Notes.
3/ Apple Notes Tip 1 - use iOS Shortcut to dictate and capture note

• I created an iOS shortcut to capture notes on the go, this setup below drops all my notes into a "dictate" folder
• I also used "Hey Siri, listen..." as a trigger to make it feel natural to capture ideas
4/ Apple Notes Tip 2 - use Text Replacement (TR) for quick capture

•To compensate for Apple Notes' lack of tagging functionality, I used TR and created a tagging system
•You need to decide what works best for you, I designed my tagging system to be action-oriented
6/ Also - different tools work for different people, there is no perfect tool.

I tested more than a dozen tools and made major switch decisions 3 times in the last 8 months, so this might change again.

The best and worst part of tech - new toys just kept getting invented. LOL.
7/ Now my ask: in one/two word(s), what quick capture tool are you using today?
