The news about the US recognition of the Armenian genocide is tricky. On the one hand, it's easy to see why diaspora groups spent decades lobbying for this. There are significant tangible results of this--especially given how world history is rendered over here through lib rights
But on the other hand, there is the obvious ethical problem: the actors involved in this gesture directly helped oversee the wholesale destruction of Syria, Iraq, Libya to just name a few examples. Before those dirty wars, Biden personally helped create the US incarceration state
To make things even more absurd: these recent dirty wars abroad take place against the violent historical backdrop of US settler colonialism. This country is, after all, a product of an ongoing genocide against the indigenous peoples unfolding for four centuries.
So naturally you gotta ask yourself: who gave these imperialist fuckers the moral authority to speak about what is and isn't genocide? Who the fuck cares what these bloodless ghouls say about our world? They don't get to speak about anything until they stop their own genocides.
And to wrap this whole affair up in a nice cynical bow: you can't seperate this decision from the diplomatic tensions between Biden/Obama/Clinton and Erdogan. For instance, the US is very mad at the moment about the S-400 and it can express it's annoyance in many different ways.

I must admit I am poorly informed about the Armenian question and (somewhat cowardly) tend to avoid Turkey altogether when it comes to the podcast. When I first began the show I released a weird hagiography of modern Turkey hosted by Walter Cronkite but stayed away ever since
There is the larger contradiction of waging ideological battle under the hermeneutical confines of liberal identity politics and minority human rights. Imploring settlers to arbitrate the validity of your trauma only exposes the hypocrisy of the entire affair, doesn't it?
