Tobal 2 is still absolutely gorgeous. This gif has some hardware acceleration going on, uprezing it, but the original game was basically this gorgeous with higher than normal resolution for PS1 and awesome animations that ran at a steady 60fps. Smoother than most games today!

Tobal 2 was WILD! Aside from having the largest cast of fighters in any fighting game ever, there were also all sorts of codes for stuff like growing and shrinking at will that absolutely broke the game BUT ALSO MADE IT EVEN MORE FUN. I love the spirit of this era of games!

I see you noticed the giant lady. Her name's Mary! She fulfills the role of "giant muscular grappler" in the Tobal games. I would say Tobal was ahead of its times, but it's more like the times are catching back up to the creativity & diversity of 90s fighting games again!

Tobal 2 also has my fav grappling system in any fighting game! There's a real sense of push and pull between opponents! There's even takedowns and ground and pound! All in 1997! The developer Dream Factory actually made a UFC game later! (It's not nearly as good as Tobal 2 tho!)
