There's a lot of stupidity in this thread, but the worst is surely dumbing down the complex arts of translation and localization to "word swap," and "word swap (slang)."

IDK how to tell you that high schoolers sounding absurd is a common, deliberate US localization choice bro. https://twitter.com/Locksneedfartin/status/1386000792625291269
I've blocked the OP to avoid spamming them with notifications but good lord. Imagine saying with your real human mouth that a 14 year old gamer girl would NEVER reduce herself to using...... decades old slang that resurged in popularity due to teen gamers https://twitter.com/Locksneedfartin/status/1386001338698510337
Also strap in, because disrespect for the complexity of localizing for American TV is a personal pet peeve and we're fucking doing this. We're making this happen.

Exhibit B is a teenage girl using age and period appropriate slang that is common in her particular hobby while also communicating to the American viewer in well understood American TV language that this teasing is not simply bullying, but pigtail pulling
Like, I'm sorry that American TV language doesn't appeal to you. I know that is why many western fans of anime and other eastern AV media end up first getting into their preferred genre.

BUT, FORTUNATELY, YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL OF THE ENTIRETY OF WESTERN ART HISTORY???
Just for reference once I stop linking to tweets directly, the thread devolves into pointlessly gory nonsense about how science denial is good and trans people are bad. Continue at your own peril.

This is as close to legitimate criticism as this thread gets (not very).

This slang is already out of date, which is arguably period inappropriate. One can argue that it matches American TV conventions, but I won't open *that* pandora's box.
