This has been explained to death, but the reason is school choice. In the last 10 days of the election Gillum was forced by teachers unions to promise he would get rid of school choice if he won. Many Black churches have private schools that survive based on the voucher dollars. If those are taken, those schools would have to close down because parents cannot afford the tuition otherwise. So faith leaders let their congregations know.

It absolutely changed the trajectory of the race. Black parents were not willing to give up the schools their family loved used so Gillum could win. That’s why Miami Dade & Broward were even more red in 2020. School choice will tank the Dems state wide forever.
