There's never going to be a meaningful amount of space colonization and the human race is going to die out right here at home. I mean, how long are we supposed to put up with this charade?
As seen here, the issue is that a lot of folks literally believe scientific progress isn't constrained by political, economic, & environmental factors. The massive technological challenges aside, no one accounts for what we'll go through this century. https://twitter.com/Paultheblind/status/1386418257331048452
Simply do not believe that the human race, which is entering an ecological crisis unprecedented in the entire history of civilization, is going to marshal the resources to make a toxic, airless rock millions of miles away sustainably habitable for large numbers of people. Sorry!
There's nothing novel or bold about this take, I don't think history provides us with good reasons to take stability and steady technological and economic progress (uninterrupted for hundreds or thousands of years!) for granted, read this, etc, etc, etc. https://gizmodo.com/humans-will-never-colonize-mars-1836316222
Yes! Seriously! https://twitter.com/mikenseer/status/1386442318471966730
The human spirit: developing the means to completely annihilate ourselves and then, within the space of just a few decades, walking around casually thinking, "You know, give us a couple thousand years, and we'll totally make it to Mars, no problem."
