i actually think some of the g*fted and t*lented kid burnout discourse could be useful if people just focused on how the american education system causes unnecessary burnout in all students—instead of yknow, acting like it’s a special curse for the really Smart Kids...
if all the ap/honors kids who didn’t have any friends outside their classes could learn to develop some empathy for our other classmates now that we are out of school maybe we could actually talk about the trauma/burnout etc in a meaningful way ???
if you did well in school & when you get to college you can’t do shit—you need to understand that is not a function of how successful you were...it just shows how overworked you were. which means what? if other people weren’t as successful, doesn’t mean they weren’t as overworked
