I don't live in India, but personally from an outsider's perspective, I think it is irresponsible for the IPL to continue in the current circumstances. When COVID hit Australia last year, all sport was shut down and we had less cases. No exemptions. No excuses.
Sport is a fantastic distraction in troubled times, but a line has to be drawn and now is the time. People are dying and struggling to receive medical support, all these resources are being used in the IPL biobubble. They could be distributed elsewhere where they are needed.
Players testing positive or going home, newspapers refusing to cover the tournament, its not looking good. And the silence over the whole situation from the BCCI and IPL is deafening. India needs more than cricket right now. It needs someone to give a damn.
I love my cricket as much as anyone else does. I love seeing the Aussies do well in these touraments and I love the spectacle. But to see it pushed and glorfied in a time of distress is inappropriate and frankly, quite insensitive
