"zoya was mean in the first book” yeah being mean isn& #39;t the problem, the problem is making her a racist and changing her characterization. book zoya wasn& #39;t desperate to hook up with mal nor did she wanted darkling& #39;s affection, she just wanted power and safety.
yes we don& #39;t get to see a developed zoya this early but if they wanted people to root for her they could& #39;ve not make her a racist and made her a little less pathetic. the way zoya carries herself with confidence is a big part of her character.
she was darkling& #39;s fav b/c she was the best student. her jealously wasn& #39;t over darkling being romantically interested in alina, it was due to losing her position of power. she was around shus in books and she wasn& #39;t racist towards them. she was mean but not a bigot
it is fine if they didn& #39;t want to show her outside of alina& #39;s pov like they did with mal but there wasn& #39;t any need to butcher her like that.
