A very happy birthday to the legendary actor, Al Pacino.
People point to Scent of a woman as Al's best performance because of his Oscar win for that role and that would be a good selection as he was great in that. However, I don’t believe it was his best performance, and I look at films like Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon as his best.+
Even The The Godfather Part II. The look in his eyes when Diane Keaton tells him she had an abortion is one of the most frightening things I’ve seen an actor do. He’s such so full of rage and hate it’s astonishing.+
Arguably, one of the greatest actors of all times!
His onscreen existence, punctuated with flamboyance and spontaneity, dominates a film in such a way that makes acting seem like the sole function of cinema.+
From playing a young junkie in Panic in the Needle Park to an exasperated bank robber in Dog Day Afternoon, he gave us one iconic roles after another. Of course, his irresistible energy and incredible nuance gave way to hammy performances in the later stages of career+
Pacino's acting demands an artistic reverence. Unlike any other actor his body language speaks more dialogues than his speech. Al Pacino is one actor whose acting as a villain inspires us. Who else can portray a character like Tony and yet influence us in a way like Al Pacino?+
Another distinguishing trait of Al is his subtlety,he manages to portray his characters so quietly that makes the experience of watching him lively and magical.
I think his greatness lies in his ability to encapture the soul of any character he plays, artist as well as an actorđź’«
