I got into twitch because we were doing great shit. We raised hundreds of thousands in 2019-2020 for various causes, trans lifeline, the wet'suwet'en struggle, the Trevor project. I thought these were cool people doing cool shit...
Most of those people hate eachother now. Quite a few are cancelled for various fuckups. Most of what twitch politics is nowadays is just shitting on whoever is in the doghouse that week. Sometimes justifiably, sometimes not. Almost never proportionately...
And often with wilful misrepresentations and lies thrown into the mix.

We do need to keep our spaces clear of bigotry and harmful behaviour and boy if we aren't super energetic when it comes to ostracizing ostensible leftists who have engaged in bad behaviour...
If only we put that much energy into building stuff and helping people.

The community can sure come together to attack. But the days of huge fundraising streams involving the whole community seem over because of all the beefs, justified and unjustified, personal and general...
It's fine to be angry when someone has done something hurtful. It's reasonable to not like or want to associate with them. Bad behaviour needs to be talked about but it can't be all we do. Being angry all the time ain't healthy.

We need to do more positive things...
We're losing the community we built where people feel safe and find friendship and representation of people like them talking about things they care about.

All in favour of the new drama of the week. The new person to get angry at.

I want to create more spaces in our community where we can just be supportive, uplifting and make people feel seen, heard and empathised with rather than just tell them what they should be angry about.
