[Thread on dark Sakura's character]
Spoiler heaven's feel 3
After my analysis on Sakura,we will now do one for dark Sakura, sticking only to the movies
Is she a simple form born from madness or is there more to it ?
Dark Sakura appears at the end of HF2 after she accidentally kills her brother Shinji. But first of all, why is his death the trigger to the shadow taking over her ?
Well,we have to first remember how Sakura sees Shinji.Even after all the abuse she took
She is probably the only one that understands him and how he ended up the way he is. Her brother's death puts an end to the peaceful family life she wished for. But there is still more, because the fact that she kills him while being fully conscious is also a thing to consider
Up until that moment, all the death she caused were done either in her shadow form or thinking she is dreaming. Despite being accepted by Shirou, she realises she cannot escape her fate to be served as a tool.
For the first time she had the courage to fight back against her brother's abuse. As Zouken explained,Sakura's mental state became too strong because of Shirou's influence and needed a trigger.
Sakura learned how to enjoy life,
But that's because of it,that loosing it feels way more painful than if she was still her old self before meeting Shirou. She is tired of suffering and now acts for herself, letting out her hidden, deepest feelings that she had to hold for the longest.
One of them being her inferiority complex.Telling Rin that she will be the one to protect Shirou shows the regret she had of not being able to protect him herself. When paired with Saber or Rin,he would always come back with injuries.
If she had stay normal after killing Shinji,Shirou would have to take upon the responsibility of his death for protecting Sakura. So by accepting her powers she can do it herself. However, her view on protection is a bit different.
She thinks the only way to put an end to Shirou's suffering is by killing him. It is not by pleasure or because she became a yandere. But because she knows in order to protect Sakura,he has to betray his ideals, referencing the scene in HF2 where Shirou thought about killing Sakura
to relieve her of her pain.We can see the painful expression in both of them just thinking of a life without the other. It's a long thought process, being cornered so much to the point where death feels like the only solution to save them.
As dark Sakura, she wanted to be scold by Shirou, for him to give up on her to not become a poison to his life. However,Shirou was mistaken in understanding Sakura, the one he needed to face head-on is not Zouken, but her.
Rin understood that and made Sakura realises that not matter what she becomes, she will always be loved. Her hatred for Rin was only one-sided as she always assumed it goes both way.Rin would rather die than killing her own sister
Which shows Sakura the absurdity in her reasonning. The one that needed to die is her inner violent self.Just like Shirou prioritised Sakura over his ideals,Rin prioritised Sakura over her selfish desires. Not dark Sakura, but her kind self.
Shirou is the final touch to save her, reassuring her that despite the form she takes , the kind Sakura that he loves and wants to protect, still exist, still has the right to be saved.
