It's been a while since I've had this rant! Maybe I'm getting lazy? Anyway here's your lithium battery FAQ again!

Lithium batteries are "green"ish! They have huge power density and are rechargeable, making them a much more environmentally friendly option than alkalines
https://twitter.com/finallyinspired/status/1385642894648922114

So why are we putting them in disposable products? That's a good question

Lithium batteries ARE recyclable; very, in fact. But they need very special processing

For disposable vapes, you can't just take them to the local Staples like your other lithium battery waste

A couple of LPs have partnered with recycling companies to provide collection bins for them in certain stores

Special programs don't encourage mass adoption so most still get thrown out

When they ARE recycled, they have tons of recoverable minerals! Efficiency

When they're NOT recycled, they can be toxic and destructive; yes, these are the Explodey ones

Most commercial ones are well-protected

Things that still make them go Boom: too charged, too discharged, too hot, too moist, punctured, squished, charged too fast.....

New battery tech is being developed that is safer AND has a greater power density

It'll be a while before we see these commercially

...so in the meantime, please BE ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE and take your lithium batteries to your local
@kolabproject battery bin!

Or, if you wanna be more aggressive, you can join me in the rant campaign to have disposable vapes phased out completely. Why do we need these?

Make every day
