When debating with someone, there are a few things you should abide by to keep your arguments valid.

An error in reasoning and debate is a fallacy in logic & here are some of the most common fallacies - that can falsify your whole argument. THREAD.
Ad-Hominem:-
It implies to the situation where somebody instead of debating over the subject of the matter, starts doing personal attacks on the other debater. Dragging the somebody’s personal life & deficiencies into their argument, renders your argument completely invalid.
Strawman Fallacy:-
This occurs when somebody in a debate, bypasses your actual subject of argument and replies to other self-made/assumed questions. E.g The opponent calls you out wrong on defending things that you weren’t actually defending in your argument
Happens a lot right?
Either-or-Fallacy:-
Occurs when somebody during an argument asks you to choose between 2 options when there are actually more to choose from.
e.g Either you love Justin Bieber or you hate music altogether.
Such fallacies make the argument invalid and childish.
Slippery slope Fallacy:-
The works by moving from a seemingly benign premise or starting point and reaching through a small no. of steps to an improbable extreme result.
E.g If Pak lost today’s match, we’ll lose all the next ones, then WC too and team will be destroyed in 5years.
Circular argument Fallacy:-
Happens when a person’s argument just repeats something they already assumed beforehand.
E.g, “Asim is right.” “Why?” “Because he’s always right”.
Such arguments have no evidences and are devoid of logic.
Appeal to Authority:-
Happens when somebody drags or misuses his/her authority any favour from authority over the debater to make their argument stronger than it really is.

E.g “you were overspeeding”
“No I wasn’t, here talk to my commissioner uncle”.
Appeal to pity:-
Using emotions in a logical argument to make people pity and agree with your point.

Ambiguity:-
Deliberately using confusing terminologies to keep things complex enough so others can’t oppose.
Fallacy of Sunk costs:-
Happens when somebody doesn’t change their opinion besides given all the evidences, just because they have invested too much time in making their opinion in the first place.
This attitude is kinda toxic x
There are many other fallacies. It’s a whole subject tbh. But these are the ones that we encounter mostly. Learn and debate and try to keep your argument free of these fallacies.
