If you live in the United States, I'm practically begging you to retweet this thread

india, vaccine, pandemic
The US government banned materials needed for India to produce its own vaccine, claiming that they are "putting America first" even though NONE of the American vaccines need the same materials as the Indian ones. (2/7)
This is an effort by the American government to block countries (especially low-income ones) from making generic vaccines so that they would be forced to buy expensive American vaccines instead. (3/7)
Less than 1% of low-income countries can even get access to vaccines. Most of the world won’t have vaccines until 2024. For the United States to block the production of generic vaccines is detrimental to BILLIONS of lives around the world. (4/7)
India has been fighting a deadly pandemic on their own. And, prior to the ban, they were producing their own vaccines & selflessly donating them to 90+ countries (5/7)
At this point, India has run out of personal protection equipment, vaccines, hospital beds, and ventilators. Without Indian vaccines, the lives of the people in over 90 low-income countries are at risk. Humanity must do better. (6/7)
