The current practice of making a written record of every interview conducted by the @PoliceMv of a suspect under caution can be done away with and improved in order to make investigations faster and more accurate:-

1. First of all, we should do away with making a written record of an interview unless an audio/video recording is impossible. So long as an audio/video recording is available there is no need to waste time on typing up a written record. The a/v record can be used as evidence.
2. Secondly, where an audio/video recording is not possible, the interview should be recorded verbatim, in question and answer format. @PoliceMv should stop summarizing a suspect’s answers in the officer’s own drafting style. This leads to inaccuracy and distortion.
There have been instances where the @PoliceMv have drafted written records of illiterate suspects which were relied on trial and found to be inaccurate and not properly explained to the suspect. Let’s do better.
