I rewatched The Nevers& #39; first 2 epis, my takes: First off the acting is phenomenal. I& #39;m surprised to see reviewers not comment on this. Every main character we meet in the first 2 epis already feel fully realized & honed in. Augie is the best example of this. His mannerisms &
style of speaking fit his character to a T w/o going overboard. TV tends to be just talking heads but these actors are very studied & the cameras tend to linger on their reactions. I& #39;m surprised to see reviewers comment that there isn& #39;t enough information about the characters yet
a similar gripe was given to WandaVision. I feel like some people tend to forget what the non-binge tv era was like. I& #39;m totally okay & would rather learn about a character each epi then have everything explained Lord Baelish style in one episode. Moving on... #TheNevers

The weakest characters for me are the villains (minus the reveal @ end of e2) which is surprising given that Whedon& #39;s TV villains are usually outstanding. Maladie has potential but her monologues run long w/o great insight or intrigue. #TheNevers

The doctor, Lord Massen, & the detective feel like 2-dimensional network villains. Massen& #39;s scenes draw out. Also the doctor has a modern American accent which doesn& #39;t fit the show. #TheNevers

As for the plot, the episodes feel very contained. Epi1 is satisfying & tells a full tale w/o needing a cliffhanger. At the second viewing I could appreciate the poetry of the script. The 3x "you look very fine," was a beautiful, intriguing touch into a relationship #TheNevers

Epi2 was a bit messy. They tried to squeeze a lot of stories here. Some work, some are okay. On rewatch I picked up & understood a lot more of who& #39;s who - there& #39;s a bit of a data dump of names & relationships that fly past you on first view. #TheNevers

A lot of reviewers called the show messy or silly, but I dont think that should detract viewers. If you like scifi or weird shows, this won& #39;t feel silly to you. As for messy, most shows don& #39;t find their feet until epi3 or 4. Whedon shows don& #39;t find their feet until sometimes s2
Watching this I am in awe of the pacing & structure of GoT s1e1-3. Those epis are probably the perfect introduction to a show with mixed genres & fantasy elements. It teased in non-fantasy fans w/o scaring them or making them feel silly. #TheNevers

#TheNevers
https://abs.twimg.com/hashflags... draggable="false" alt=""> is not that & I don& #39;t think HBO expected it to be. The selling point of the show was Whedon& #39;s name so essentially he could do whatever he wanted w/it. He didn& #39;t have to worry about scaring certain viewers off because his name sold (*until no*). The show goes all out
with it& #39;s concept, it& #39;s a bit messy but w/these actors, the world built, & the team behind it, I& #39;m sure it& #39;ll find its feet! Also lol @ all the x-men comparisons as if the x-men were the 1st to tell these stories. Most fiction is recycled.
